Explore France

The Loire region of France is an area of outstanding beauty, bursting with culture and breath taking architecture. So much so that in 2000 the area was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Carving it's way through the region, the Loire river is lined with hundreds of France's most palatial chateaux. The surrounding villages are quintesentially French, if it's gastronomy and culture you are after, you won't be disappointed.

Paris is under two hours from the region by car or train. When staying in one of our ZenBreak properties you have the best of both worlds, the tranquility of the country side and the buzz of the city.

Here is our shortlist of the best things to do in the Loire region.

Wander around a magnificent Chateau

There are too many magnificent chateaux to visit, take a look at the link above to see a selection of the region's chateaux. Some of our favourites are Chateau ChambordChateau de Sully-sur-Loire, Chateau de la Busssiere and Chateau de Chenonceau

Visit the elegant city of Orleans

A buzzing city with beautiful broad boulevards, chic shopping and plenty to see. The architecture is outstanding, the Cathedral Ste-Croix is a must see as is Hotel Groslot, not a hotel as the name would suggest. Orleans was home to the world famous Joan of Arc, learn about her part in the 100 years war and how she changed history in 1429 at the museum.

Sample the local wines at a vineyard

The region is home to many vineyards and is the original home of Sauvignon Blanc. Sancerre is the world’s most prestigious Sauvignon Blanc sets international standards for the grape. You will also find delicious reds and rosé from Pinot Noir in Sancerre, Menetou-Salon, and Chateaumeillant. A vineyard tour is a great way to spend a day in the Loire.

Explore Paris

With central Paris just 1 hour by train from Orleans, you can easily venture into Paris to explore everything the city has to offer. The Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, The Arc De Triumph, we could go on and on. A captivating city, Paris will leave you wanting more.

Jump on a bike

The region is flat with lots of bike paths, so hopping on a bicycle is a great way to take in the local area. Whether you are more into a gentle cycle or a serious cycling adventure, there are many places to rent bikes, so get those legs pedalling!
